I was chatting with a girlfriend of mine yesterday and we were talking about weird eating habits. As I have mentioned before, I am blessed to have a natural attraction to healthy foods. Although I do suffer from having a sweet tooth, I don't like fast food and I don't tend to snack that often, only when I'm nervous or anxious. Luckily the foods I tend to reach for are delicious AND good for you!
Here are 5 of my favorite snack foods for when I do snack:
1. Cottage Cheese
This is probably a lot of peoples favorite healthy snack and why not?! I love knowing that I'm getting protein as well as love how multifaceted it can be. When I'm craving something sweet I dash a little sugar free jello mix in my bowl and I have a fruity healthy tide-me-over or dessert!
2. Mama Lupe's Low carb tortillas
I top these bad boys with a spoonful of hummus, some almond butter, or PB2 and it is delicious and transportable!
3. Yerba Mate
Now this is a prime example of my weird eating habits. Yerba Mate is a tea typical to South America especially in Argentina, Paraguay, and Brazil. I became hooked on it when I lived in Argentina for a year and find it to be a fantastic cure to bored eating as well as a great caffeine boost. You can find it at natural food stores but it is ridiculously overpriced. Here it is becoming more and more popular as a dietary product for appetite suppression but I honestly drink it because I love it and the memories it fills me with.
4. Edamame
I love these little guys. I usually buy the shelled frozen edamame which they sell at all grocery stores. I will be real, I pop them frozen but obviously they can be cooked and salted if you aren't as weird as me.
5. Sugar snap peas
Along the same vein as edamame these guys are so great for nervous snacking. They are so crunchy and so sweet that it's hard to stop but luckily they are vegetables! Some people like them with ranch but I prefer them unscathed. Mmm.
Anyway, those were just the top 5 things I reach for when I feel like snacking. I love new healthy snacking ideas so let me know if there is something I may love!
