Because of that, I decided (along with my fellow friday lunch-ers) to snap photos of the food my friends and I order during our Friday lunches out.
The Friday lunch tradition started at the beginning of the semester as a way for my 3 friends and I to nurse hangovers, recover, and chat about the previous night's events (the previous night being the infamous "dollar night").
Last Friday we went to Aroy Thai. Although we didn't have the normal lunch crew David, Allie, and I enjoyed three different entrees at the restaurants discounted lunch prices.
Not pictured was a side of rice, the crab rangoons, and the hot and sour soup that was included in the price of all of our entrées.
David's lunch was the Mango Chicken. This entree was the priciest option ringing in at $12.95 but it was delicious and had half of a mango on the plate! David mentioned that the chicken was cooked a little tougher than he prefers but that the flavor made up for it. Not to mention it was beautifully plated!
I ordered the Paad Thai with tofu priced at $7.95. Although I feel Paad Thai is a very boring thing to order when out for thai, it's a classic dish that shouldn't disappoint! I really wanted curry but chose this instead as it was a healthier, gluten free, yet still delicious option. As a fan of spice I asked for them to 'up the spice' to this typically sweet and tangy dish which was a great decision.
Allie's dish was the "vegetable lover" with tofu for $7.95, a perfect option for her as a vegetarian. This dish also had a "VERY SPICY" warning that she willingly accepted although our waiter seemed reluctant. To me the dish was very simple but Allie seemed content with its spicy and veggie packed content.I recommend everyone to give Aroy Thai a chance but would encourage new visitors to try it over the lunch hour (11-3) as it is significantly cheaper. Although the portion sizes are smaller than at dinner, we all left full and ready for a nap.
Although none of us had the dish this time around, I highly recommend trying the Yellow Curry. A rich, spicy dish with coconut milk, a multitude of vegetables, and meat (or tofu) of your choice served with rice. This dish is my favorite dish from Aroy Thai so far and think its a great introduction to the world of curry dishes!
Overall rating: 8/10
